Heat Pump Servicing in Walsall: Local Help to Keep Your System Running Well
Heat Pump Servicing in Walsall: keep your system efficient and protect your investment with a local team, free survey and written quote. Call for a quote.
If your heat pump is making odd noises, costing more to run than it used to, or simply hasn’t been looked at since it went in, a proper check can put your mind at rest. At Eco Air Source Heat Pump Installer, we offer heat pump servicing from our Walsall (WS1) premises, and you’re welcome to pop in and talk it through. We’re open 7 days, 9am to 7pm. Call 01922 302461 and a real person will answer. The first visit is a free survey, and you get a written quote before any work starts.
What Happens Inside the Unit
A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into your home. The outdoor unit pulls air across a coil, and a refrigerant circuit carries that heat indoors, where it warms your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water. Because it works with outdoor air all year round, it picks up leaves, dirt and moisture that a gas boiler in a cupboard never has to deal with.
Air source heat pump maintenance means checking the whole chain, not just the box outside. That includes the fan and coil, the water pressure and flow in your heating circuit, the controls, the hot water cylinder and the safety devices. A small fault caught early is usually a modest job. Left alone, the same fault can drag efficiency down for months before anyone notices.
Who Should Book a Check
- Owners of a newly installed system, to confirm everything is set up as the designer intended.
- Anyone whose system has never been serviced, particularly if the installer is no longer around.
- Landlords, who want paperwork showing the heating has been looked after between tenancies.
- People who’ve noticed a change: rising bills, rooms that take longer to warm, frequent error codes or a louder outdoor unit.
- Homeowners with older units whose warranty terms ask for regular servicing.
We cover Walsall, Bloxwich, Aldridge, Brownhills, Willenhall, Darlaston, Wednesbury and nearby parts of the West Midlands.
From First Call to Finished Job
- A phone call. Tell us the make and model if you know it, plus what you’ve noticed. We’ll say plainly whether it sounds like a service or something more.
- Free survey. We look at the unit, the pipework, the cylinder and the controls, and check access around the outdoor unit.
- Written quote. You get the work and the cost on paper, so you can decide in your own time.
- The service itself. We clean the outdoor coil and check the fan, test refrigerant circuit operation, inspect the water circuit and filters, and review your controls and settings.
- Hot water safety checks. If you have an unvented cylinder, we check the safety valves, expansion vessel and discharge pipework. Building Regulations Part G covers hot water safety, and these parts exist to protect you.
- A plain-English handover. We explain what we found, what we changed and what to keep an eye on.
What You’ll Gain
Steadier running costs. Heat pumps are more than three times more efficient than a gas or oil boiler (Energy Saving Trust, 2026). A dirty coil or a badly set flow temperature can chip away at that advantage.
Protection for a big purchase. The Energy Saving Trust puts the typical cost of installing an air source heat pump in the UK at around £12,000 (Energy Saving Trust, 2026). A regular check is a sensible way to look after that.
Warranty and paperwork. Many manufacturers ask for service records. A dated service report also helps if you sell or let the property.
Fewer surprises. Most faults give warning signs first. A service gives somebody the chance to spot them.
Safety. Hot water components and electrical connections are checked by someone who knows what they should look like.
What Affects the Price
We don’t quote servicing prices without seeing the system, because the cost depends on things you can’t judge from the outside:
- The make, model and size of the unit
- Whether it’s a monobloc, with all components in one outdoor unit, or a split system (Energy Saving Trust, 2026)
- Whether there’s a hot water cylinder to inspect, and what type
- How easy the outdoor unit is to reach
- Whether anything needs cleaning, replacing or resetting beyond a standard check
On timing, most checks are done in a single visit, and we’ll tell you how long yours should take when we quote.
If you’re weighing up a replacement rather than a service, published installation costs vary. Checkatrade gives £3,000 to £15,000 on average, not including extras such as upgrading radiators (Checkatrade, 2026). Heatable says around £7,000 to £13,000, depending on property size, system design and upgrades (Heatable, 2026). Worcester Bosch says £5,000 to £15,000 (Worcester Bosch, 2026). A survey is the only way to get a figure for your house.
Questions We Hear Often
How often should a heat pump be serviced?
Your manufacturer’s handbook sets the interval, and most ask for a yearly service. Regular checks keep efficiency up, catch small faults early and often keep your warranty valid. If yours has never been looked at, don’t wait for the next anniversary. Give us a ring and we’ll arrange a free survey to see where it stands.
How noisy is a heat pump?
Outdoor units produce a steady hum from the fan, much like a modern fridge-freezer or air conditioner. A sudden rattle, whine or louder-than-usual noise is a sign something needs attention, often debris in the fan, a loose panel or a mounting issue. We’ll listen, check and tell you honestly whether it’s normal.
Are heat pumps worth it?
For many homes, yes, though it depends on the house. Heat pumps are more than three times more efficient than a gas or oil boiler, but on standard tariffs electricity is nearly four times more expensive than gas, so running costs can be slightly higher. A heat pump time-of-use tariff can bring them below a gas boiler (Energy Saving Trust, 2026). A well-maintained system gives you the best chance of seeing that efficiency.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?
Most heat pump installations are permitted development, so planning permission isn’t needed. If you live in a listed building or a conservation area, check with your local planning department first (Energy Saving Trust, 2026). This matters for servicing if you’re thinking of moving or replacing the outdoor unit as part of the work.
Can I get the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?
Homes in England and Wales can get £7,500 towards an air source heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (Energy Saving Trust, 2026). You must own the property and be replacing a fossil fuel system such as oil, gas, electric or LPG (GOV.UK, 2026). The grant comes through our MCS-certified partner, who quotes, installs and applies on your behalf. If you don’t need the grant, we install the heat pump ourselves.
